Homework 01.31.13

For tonight we are going to have a writing assignment.  Before I give you the prompt, I want you to watch this video.  It will help you with your assignment.

What an inspiring little kid!

He said,  "Create something that will make the world awesome." I know that each one of my spectacular students is capable of making this world an AWESOME place!  I hope you will always find ways to be a better person and do things that will make the world a better place.

For your writing prompt, I want you to think about what he said in the video (watch his pep talk again if you need to) and then write to this prompt: Who do you look up to?  Why do you look up to this person?  What are they like?  What things about them make you want to be a better person?

Do your BEST writing.  I want a MINIMUM of THREE paragraphs.  Write it in Notability (or on paper) and put it in Drop Box.

See you tomorrow!!!

PS- If you have some extra time, log on and do ALEKS and ScootPad tonight :)

Homework 01.30.12

Learning Objective:  I will understand how to multiply mixed numbers.

Tonight's Assignment:

 1.  CLICK HERE and watch a short 5 minute video about multiplying mixed numbers. (Remember to use Puffin or Rover if the video isn't working on your iPad)

2.  Use your Educreations App and record how you would solve the following problem:  (if you don't have your iPad, then you will write your explanation on paper)

       1 1/3 X 2 1/4 =

Pretend you are the teacher and you are explaining the steps in the process of solving the problem.  If you need extra help, go back and watch the video again.  We will partner share these in class tomorrow, so do YOUR BEST WORK!

3.  CLICK HERE and see how many problems you can get correct.  I want you to try at LEAST 10 problems.  Have fun and GOOD LUCK!!!

If you have time, do ScootPad and ALEKS.  Your brain will thank you for it!!! :)

 See you tomorrow!

Homework 01.29.13

I couldn't stop laughing at this video. See how important it is to LISTEN and FOLLOW instructions!!! The following video is a prime example of what happens when you don't follow instructions or when instructions are not clear and you fail to ask questions:

(CLICK HERE to watch the video)

Tonight's homework assignment:

1. ALEKS- Do ALEKS for 20-30 minutes. I am certain that you will be math SUPER STARS by the end of fifth grade!

2. ScootPad- Since you did math on ALEKS, do reading on ScootPad 20-30 minutes.

3. If you have time, log onto Spelling City and practice those spelling words.

Homework 01.28.13

I hope you all had a FABULOUS day at school today!  Now it is time for a little bit of homework :)

Before we get started, here is a little something to make you laugh.  I hope that math in our class doesn't feel as frustrating as the math in this video.  Please remember to ASK QUESTIONS if you don't understand.  Asking questions is how we learn.

Now for tonight's assignment:

Learning Objective: I will understand how to find the fractions of a fraction.

1.  Watch the short video below:

If his cross cancelling confused you, just know that he was just reducing and then solving instead of solving and then reducing. If you would have multiplied straight across and then divided the denominator into the numerator, you would have gotten the same answer.   Give it a try!

2. CLICK HERE to play a game that will challenge you to find the fraction of a whole number. Let's see how you do. I want you to do at least 10 problems, but the more you do, the more you will learn!

3. ALEKS Log onto ALEKS and do it for at least 20-30 minutes. Once again, feel free to do it longer if you would like. The more problems you do, the more opportunities you have to learn.

Have a GREAT night and I will see you tomorrow morning!

Homework 01.22.13

We are going to have our Earth's Surface Science assessment on FRIDAY!  This week I will be giving you homework that will help you with your assessment.  I hope that you will take the time to REALLY understand and RESEARCH anything that you may not understand.

For tonight's assignment, you will answer 5 questions in Notability and then put them in your Drop Box folder.  If you don't have your iPad, then answer the following questions on paper and turn them in tomorrow.

1.  Look at these pictures of canyon floods and then answer the question below the pictures.

If you had to make a model of a canyon flood, which of the following choices would be the best way to demonstrate what the canyon would look like after a flood?

a)  a tray of sand with water dripping through it
b)  a tray of sand with water pouring through it
c)  a tray of sand with a blow dryer set up near by
d)  a tray of sand with some plants along the edges

Select your answer, and then EXPLAIN why that is your choice.  Why do you think that is the answer?  Hint:  Think about when we went to Zion and made our canyons and poured water in them.

2.  Look at the picture below, then explain how erosion causes river rocks to become smooth and rounded.  Use Google and do some research if you need help, or CLICK HERE for some help

River Rocks

3.  Which type of erosion moves the most rock on earth's surface?  Need some help?  CLICK HERE and you can find the answer.

4.  If I wanted to research what Utah was like 35 million years ago, what would my best source of information be?

c)  Do a Google search "35 million years ago".
d)  Do a Google search "Utah, 35 million years ago".

Explain why your answer choice is correct.

5.  U-shaped valleys in Northern Utah were created by glaciers.  Glaciers are the type of erosion that causes U-shaped valleys to be formed.  Look at the picture of the U-shaped valley below, how long do you think it takes a glacier to make a valley?
Glacial Valley

a)  less than a year

Homework 01.16.13

Here is your homework for tonight.  Make sure and do your BEST work!

1.   ALEKS.  Log onto ALEKS by CLICKING HERE or going to the app on your iPad.  Spend at least 15-20 minutes working on math problems. The great thing about ALEKS is that you don't have to put anything into your Drop Box folder.  It tracks the time you spend and the number of questions you answer so I can just go onto ALEKS and see who did their homework.  HOORAY!

2.  ScootPad.  Log onto ScootPad by CLICKING HERE or by going to the app on your iPad.  Do the Reading/Language Arts section for at least 15- 20 minutes.  You can do math too if you would like, but ScootPad math is optional tonight.  ScootPad also tracks your time spent and the number of questions you answer, so there is nothing to turn into Drop Box.

3. READ!!! Don't forget to read.  You should already be doing this every night.

4.  SMILE and HAVE A GREAT NIGHT!  I will see you in the morning  :)  :)  :)
