Homework 12.19.12

MATH REVIEW!!!

Tonight you will be reviewing concepts that you have learned in Math Topic 10.  We will have our test tomorrow, so DO YOUR BEST on the review.  Remember, if there is something that you don't understand, then PLEASE try to "Google" it for help, or ask a parent.  Don't give up!  Put on your thinking cap and think of ways you can find that will help you figure out the answer!!!

Read this information about Gregorian Calendars.  It will come in handy on your test! :)

The Gregorian calendar is today's internationally accepted civil calendar and is also known as the "Western calendar" or "Christian calendar". It was named after the man who first introduced it in February 1582: Pope Gregory XIII.

Gregorian Calendar features

The calendar is strictly a solar calendar based on a 365-day common year divided into 12 months of irregular lengths. Each month consists of either 30 or 31 days with 1 month consisting of 28 days during the common year. A Leap Year usually occurs every 4 years which adds an extra day to make the second month of February 29 days long rather than 28 days.

The Gregorian Calendar is the one we use today.  It has 12 months.  Each month has 28, 30, or 31 days.

What do you know about negative numbers???  Watch the video below to find out!

What do you know about exponents??? CLICK HERE for a simple exponent explanation. Remember, the exponent just tells you how many times to multiply the base number by itself.

I think you are ready for our review.

Please answer the questions in Notability if you have your iPad and SHOW YOUR WORK!  I want to see how your smart brain figured out all of the answers!  Good luck!

Here is the review:

For your homework tonight you are going to watch two short video clips and then answer a few questions about what you learned.  Have fun and keep smiling!!! :) :) :)

PS- Lucky for you, you don't even have to listen to me tonight!!!  You will be watching videos from other teachers :)

Write down TWO IMPORTANT things you learned from the first video.

 Now watch the second video:

Write down THREE IMPORTANT things you learned from the second video.

The different colors on the map indicate the different time zones in the United States.  Use the picture above to answer the following questions:

1.  How many hours apart are Utah and Florida?
2.  How many hours apart are Utah and California?
3.  How many hours apart are New York and Oregon?
4.  We get out of school at 3:30 pm each day.  What time is it in Texas when we get out of school?
5.  A flight leaves from Florida to Texas at 9:05 am.  The flight takes 1 hour and 45 minutes.  What time will it be in Texas when the plane lands?  DON'T FORGET THE TIME ZONES! :)  GOOD LUCK!!!

Complete the assignment in Notability and put it in your DropBox folder.  Here is what the assignment should include:  What you learned from the videos and the 5 questions about time zones using the map.

Homework 12.13.12

SCIENCE!!!  WAHOO!  We are starting a new science unit!!!  I absolutely love science and I can't wait to start the new unit.  We are going to be learning about the Earth's Surface, so we will be learning about things like: earthquakes, erosion, volcanoes, uplift, and weathering.

To get us started on the unit, you need to CLICK HERE and go over to our class blog and do the post on Weathering and Erosion.

After you finish the vocabulary words and videos on the post, come back here and finish your assignment.

Assignment (Answer the questions on Notability and put it in your Drop Box folder):

1.  Define the following words:  erode, fault, deposition, weathering, and uplift.  Need some help?  CLICK HERE for a link to definitions.

2.  Make a list of 3 things you learned from the first video on the blog.

3.  Make list of 3 things you learned from the second video on the blog.

4.  Go to Spelling City and practice your spelling words.  We have a test tomorrow :)

 Science Benchmark

The Earth’s surface is constantly changing. Some changes happen very slowly over long periods of time, such as weathering, erosion, and uplift. Other changes happen abruptly, such as landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. All around us, we see the visible effects of the building up and breaking down of the Earth’s surface.

Homework 12/12/12

Math Topic 9 REVIEW

Learning objective:  I will review concepts taught in Topic 9.

For your homework tonight, you will watch the review on the video and follow along.  Make sure you answer all 10 of the questions and then either email me your review, put it in your folder in Drop Box, or turn the paper in tomorrow.  I just need proof that you actually did the review that is on the video.

Now that you are finished with the review on the video, do the review below on your own. You can work the problems out on Noteablility on your iPad, or on paper. We will correct them in class tomorrow. DO YOUR BEST AND SHOW YOUR WORK! Please don't just give me an a,b,c answer. Show your work where possible. You can do the review from here, or else get it in Drop Box and complete it in Notability. Good luck!!!   PS- Don't forget our test is tomorrow after Bell Work :)
GWM Review Topic 9

Homework 12/11/12

Topic 9.5

Learning Objective:  I will understand traversable networks.

Key Vocabulary-

network:  a diagram consisting of arcs (branches) connecting points or nodes (junctions).  A network may represent a real-world situation, such as a road system or electronic circuit.  Sometimes the nodes are called vertices.

traverse the network:  the process of tracing each path of a network without going back over any path a second time.

Look at the bus route below.  This is an example of a network.  Engineers and designers work together to form the best and most economic way for a bus to travel.

Definition of a Traversable Network
(For original post by Passy's World of Mathematics, CLICK HERE)

A “Traversable Network” is one where we can find a route through the network, along the edges, that uses all of the edges only once.

A network is said to be traversable when it is possible to start at a “Vertex” (or “Node”), and trace out the whole network without having to retrace over any of the connector “Edges”.

The following is a Traversable Network, because we can easily get around the Network traveling along each Edge (or connector) only once.

Now watch the video about traversable networks:

Are these shapes traversable? Remember if you can traverse the network, you will go across each path without going back over any path a second time.

Here is our flipchart from class about networks. Go through it to see if you have any questions about what we will be doing in class tomorrow: Topic 9.5

GRAMMAR HOMEWORK: Watch the video below and follow the directions.

Homework 12/05/12

Tonight we are just going to "get our feet wet", so to speak, with how we are going to start doing homework.  If you were able to bring your iPad home, you can use your iPad to complete this assignment.  If you didn't bring an iPad home, then you can complete the assignment on a computer, iPod, or any other device that has internet access.

Don't forget that for tonight, you will still need to complete the page from the homework packet that I sent home.  However, I won't be sending homework packets home much longer.  Soon you will only come here for your homework assignments.  I can't wait!!! :)

Since we had a sub and missed two days of Math Centers, what I want you to do tonight is to go back and do the activities on the class blog for Topic 9.1 and 9.2.

You can link to the posts by clicking below:

Make sure you follow the instructions on the posts and do all of the activities.  After you do those, then you are going to make a graphic organizer for 9.1 and 9.2 showing what you learned.  Use Popplet on your iPad if you have it.  If you don't have an iPad, then just make a web graphic organizer on a piece of paper.

Here is an idea of what I am looking for.  This is a SIMPLE Popplet and I didn't finish all of the answers, because I don't want you using mine.  I want to know what YOU learned.  So GET CREATIVE and have FUN!!! :)
